Mathematical preparation of elementary school teachers

Postby Joseph Malkevitch on Fri Jul 04, 2008 4:11 pm

Dear Colleagues,

A report has recently been issued concerning the preparation of elementary school teachers in mathematics.

The abstract for this report, and the full report, available at the url below, includes the following comment:

http://www.nctq.org/p/publications/reports.jsp

"Imagine the implications of an elementary teaching force being able to pass this test."

The test involved is available at the url below.

I am curious to know the reaction of the Mathematics/Mathematics Education community to the implications of needing to be able to do well on this test as required for teaching in elementary school.

Best wishes,

Joe
